What is Disability Stewardship?
A true partnership, Alyssa moves alongside folks who are often Disabled and/or chronically ill, providing trauma-informed, affirming, inclusive, and thoughtful peer-to-peer handholding, mentorship, and advocacy while navigating their lives and the spaces they inhabit during today’s polycrisis.
This collection of services is a wellspring of supportive offerings, organically and tenderly cocooning each unique individual based on their specific and holistic needs, identities, circumstances, hopes, and dreams — and as those facets evolve along the way, together — through a Disability Justice framework and on Crip Time.*
These include, but are not limited, to:
-
Diagnoses or the diagnosis process
-
Medical settings
-
Education and academia of all levels
-
Family and friend life
-
All kinds of work
-
Activism
-
Grief
-
Personal goalsetting
-
Value alignment
Alyssa draws on her decades of lived experience, her inner knowing, her education inside and outside of academia, and the extensive wisdom of her shared communities.
Alyssa also supports those who work with individuals who are Disabled and/or chronically ill as these providers navigate their own growing edges, as well as their resourcing needs. Alyssa has completed ADA Coordinator certification.
What can our time together look like?
A few examples of the work Alyssa does:
-
Review medical results together to create a plan for next steps with your team.
-
Script and navigate self advocacy in spaces designed without Disability or access in mind.
-
Organize medical and/or Disability paperwork together.
-
Support for aid and fundraising efforts.
-
Create and implement pods.
-
Make and hold space for the emotional experiences around and unique to Disability and chronic illness, like C-PTSD, grief, and mourning both physical and ambiguous loss.
-
Help in navigating services, especially for those with Developmental Disability and their families.
-
Upskill toolkit for dealing with the burnout and axiological harm caused by living in a kyriarchal polycrisis.
How does pricing work?
Divesting from capitalism and the many ways it harms us while we attempt to survive in its grips is a daily and imperfect practice.
Alyssa seeks to reduce further harm to those most impacted by white supremacist capitalism, specifically those at the intersections of marginalizations: Black, Brown, and Indigenous queer and trans Disabled and/or chronically ill folks.
She is currently offering her services on a sliding scale based on each client’s self-assessed personal financial circumstances. Additionally, there are a limited number of free sessions available on a first come, first served basis. Please reach out to have a conversation about pricing that makes the most sense for your work together.
*By ascribing to Crip Time, Alyssa and her clients mutually agree to honor each other’s bodyminds and capacities, understanding that symptoms and circumstances can change at a moment's notice and offering grace to one another is just as much an act of care as it is an act of disobedience toward so-called Father Time.
